About the Class:
In this 4 hour workshop , we will work from a photograph of an existing painting, observing and replicating the process and creating our own portrait. Using a series of oil washes on top of Acrylic, we will learn how to layer paint and create the skin tones, lights, darks, highlights, and depth that make a portrait. We will translate a light preparatory drawing on wood into oil and oil washes, the light application will enable us to see our initial drawing as we paint.
The portrait will have the entire palette: we will learnt the art of mixing colors, brushes and brush application, mediums and myriad consistency in oil, and how to achieve a successful representation of our subject. We will learn how to layer and shade paint; applying dark over the darks and light over the lights.
The difference and feel of working wet on wet and wet on dry, as well as the difference between painting with acrylic and oil.
Each student will get their own LDBA Oil Painting Kit!
